Well, kind of.
It begins in my basement, but the movie we're watching takes place in Australia. See, since Fallout 4 is coming out soon(ish), my roommates and I have decided to watch all of the Mad Max movies. So of course we started at the only place that made sense. At move 2: The Road Warrior.

It was... something. I enjoyed it a fair amount, and I could see the influence that this film (and the next one) had on the Fallout franchise of video games. Everything from the costumes to the names looks to have been taken almost straight out of this movie. And that names bit is the one that stuck with me.
See, I, like many people who play video games, have trouble naming my characters. And so for Fallout 4 (since I'll want to spend much more time playing it than thinking of names when it comes out), I've decided to get a head start.
Which brings us to the sidebar.
Some of the names in The Road Warrior were downright ridiculous and hilarious. I mean, the plot centers around a gasoline refinery thing that's getting harassed by a guy named "Lord Humongous". What the heck. (From Geslin: It's the 80's. What do you expect?)
The names 2 and 3 (Mr. Panda the Shadow Shaman and Epoxyclypse) come from Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome. Neither of these are actual names from the show. We tend to come up with rando (yes, rando) stuff like that during movies. Epoxyclypse is something that one of the tribal kids says while showing Max the history of their little village and Mr. Panda the Shadow Shaman is the name we came up with for this guy:
Mr. Panda the Shadow Shaman in all his glory. Sans Bowler hat he gets later though. |
Toast the Knowing is one of the WTF names that was credited in Mad Max: Fury Road (of which there were many). Because Toast. The Knowing.
Bob is on the list because Bethesda Game Studios voiced a bunch of common names and your Mr. Handy unit will actually address you by name if you pick one of the ones they voiced. So Bob. Or Betty I guess. That would be the female (more or less) equivalent.
Want to add another name to the running? We have plenty of time before the game comes out!

...I'm not sure why I put dinosaurs in the title. But then again, those guys always pop up when you least expect it.
